What is the difference between alpaca fleece and sheep's wool? Alpaca fleece is much softer and warmer than wool. It is lanolin-free, so many people with wool allergies can comfortably wear alpaca fleece. Each strand of fleece is hollow, allowing for a breathable fiber that provides super insulation. This thermal quality allows for garments that are light-weight but still very warm.
What are the differences between the grades of alpaca fleece? Where applicable, the grade of the alpaca fleece used to make the product is listed with that product's page. Fleece is graded for its fineness (diameter of the fibre shaft) and is measured in microns (μ) which is a millionth of a metre. The lower the micron number, the finer the fleece. To give you a sense of the fineness of alpaca fleece, human hair averages around 50-75 μ.
Can I machine wash my product? Yes, you can, although special care must be taken not to agitate it. Make sure that the wash water is the same temperature as the rinse water. You can wash your product in hot water if you wish, but make sure that the rinse water is the same temperature, or let the item cool between washing and rinsing. Our advice is to use cold water for both (and save on your water heating bill.) How do I machine wash my product?
Can I put my product in the dryer? Do NOT put in a dryer. Natural fibres such as alpaca will shrink and felt in a dryer. Unless shrinking and felting is your desired outcome, always hang or lay flat to dry.
How do I care for my Duvet? A good duvet is an investment that will last you for years to come. Occasional airing your duvet outside on a sunny, dry day will keep your duvet fresh and clean. For the most part, this is all you need to do. We recommend that you wash it as seldom as possible. If you do need to wash it, follow the instructions below: Front Load Washer (recommended) : Choose the “hand wash” cycle. Use cool water and a mild natural soap. When finished, run it again on a spin cycle to make sure most of the water is out. Hang to dry. Top Load Washer (extra large tub) : Fill your machine with cool water and mild natural soap. Add the duvet, let soak for 5 – 10 minutes and then plunge it up and down by hand to clean it. Turn the dial to spin and spin the water out. Allow the machine to fill again for the rinse but but don't allow machine to agitate. Plunge up and down again and then turn the dial to spin. Hang to dry. Dry Cleaning : Use an environmentally friendly dry cleaner.
